Best Guitar Strings for Heavy/Death metal?
Standard strings will sound like poo if you tune your guitar down to drop C, or especially C standard. The strings are much looser in these tunings so thin ones will rattle and bend off the fretboard like crazy, so Oden certainly would not smile upon your shredding.

You'll definitely need a heavier gauge string to accommodate for the lower tuning. Something like a Dean Markley medium. Or, try going on Wikipedia and looking up a few of your favorite bands whose sounds your going for. Lots of times they'll have a listing in there about what equipment they use, including strings. Use what they use.
Reply:I see this question often...and I wish there was a great answer. Strings are like food. If someone asked the question "What food should I eat" you would get just as many answers as you would with guitar strings. I play every day and use four different guitars with four different types of strings...why? Because I don't want to eat the same food every day and I don't want to play the same guitar and use the same strings everyday. That being said...I like standard Fender strings and D'ADDARIOs. I will switch from 9's to 10's every once in a while for no particular reason just change.
