What string on a guitar is C?

I am trying to learn a Hannah Montana song called "I Miss You" It shows the words and it will put the letter of the string above the word you play it on. Some of the lines have Cs and I doint know what string is a c. I thought that they were E a d g b e! Please help me! Im a beginner!

What string on a guitar is C?
Wow, you are getting a lot of creative responses. Some of them are useful and some of them will confuse you. The strings of the guitar are as some said

E / A / D / G / B / E (Eat At Doc's Grill Before Easter) from the bottom (fat string) to the top. (skinny string, farthest away) We say from the bottom to the top because it is from the lowest sound, to the highest sound!

If the song puts the letter above the word you play on, it is probably the chord they want you to play, not the note. The C chord would be played (simplest version) by putting your first finger down just behind the first fret of the second string and playing the first three strings only.

6X / 5X / 4X / 3/0 / 2/1 / 1/0 (X means don't play the string. 0 means play the string without putting any fingers down on it)

Later on, you will want to add to this chord by playing

6/0 / 5/3 / 4/2 / 3/0 / 2/1 / 1/0 (First finger just before the first fret of the second string, 2nd finger just before the second fret of the fourth string, and 3rd finger just before the third fret of the fifth string)

When you are very comfortable with that chord, try this

6/3 5/3 4/2 3/0 2/1 1/0 (you can play the sixth string with either your third or fourth finger depending on the shape of your hand. Use the other finger to play the fifth string)

When you get into a situation when the note name is over the note however, the C "Note" would be 2/1 (put your first finger just before the first fret of the second string)

You are going to run into other chords and notes, so you will probably want to get a book or web page that explains them all to you. If you have trouble, give me a shout. By the way, don't ever let anyone put you down for something you like. I am 52 years old and I still know all the lyrics to H.R. Puffinstuff, Speed Racer, The Bugs Bunny Theme, and The Magic Toy Shop! Like what you want to like and learn what you want to learn. Fortunately, the world does not run on some popularity contest.
Reply:It is directing you to play a C chord.

Those letters are referring to chords and not individual strings.
Reply:c is the 3ed string down
Reply:You're right ... the strings on a guitar are E, A, D, G, B and E. There isn't a "C" string on a guitar.

Most likely, those indicators above the lyrics aren't string designators, but CHORD designators. Play the corresponding CHORD on those words to play the song.

HTH!
Reply:"E"very

"A"merican

"D"rove

"G"remlins

"B"efore

"e"lephants

The is no "C" string - it's a note (chord).

Reply:none, you are right
Reply:Those are chords. There is no C string on a guitar in standard tuning.
Reply:c is the i think 3rd string from the thin one
Reply:The second highest or B string at the first fret. But hannah montans is for demented 3 year olds you should learn some good music!
Reply:its the third string up in guitar u rea strings bottom to top
Reply:Generally there is not "C" string on a guitar unless you tune it that was on porpose. now usually when they Tall you that they will tell you the "note" They will simply give you a letter like it sounds like they did. so If you are just learning to play a guitar and want to now how to play "C" note on one string it is the 3rd fret on the second string . If you want to play it as a pwoer chord it would be like this.

First(pointer finger) = 1st fret of 5th string

second(Middle finger)=2nd fret of 3rd string

third(Ring Finger =3rd fret of 2nd string

All played together.

If you want to play it in a power chord it would be as follows

First finger bars strings 2-5 on the 3rd fret

Second finger=5th fret of string 3

third finger=5th fret of string 4

pinky=5th fret of string 5
Reply:there is no string on a guitar as a C. but you can play these:

5th string: 1st fret

1st string: 7th fret

2nd string: 3rd fret

or you might want to play a chord of C.

you have to put your index finger on 5th string: 1st fret. put your middle finger on the 3rd string: 2nd fret. and then you have to put the ring finger on the 2nd string: 3rd fret.
Reply:You can tune any string you'd like to "C"...but in standard tuning (E-A-D-G-B-e)...there is no string tuned to "C".

Is it possible that the tab or sheet music is telling you to play a "C" chord? If not...does the tab/sheet music indicate an alternate tuning? I don't know the song...so I can help more w/o more info?!
Reply:ther isnt a string c but what it will proberly mean is play the chord c in a 4/4 pattern, just luck it up on the internet if ya dont know what that means
Reply:There isn't a C string i think you probbably mean the B string (which is the 3rd string) The C note is the 3rd fret/3rd finger on the B string. Good luck and Keep practicing I know i have to!!!
